Spotlight: Elaine Ayers

What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people know?

I used to play guitar at (and ran) a college coffee house at the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio.

What is your favorite hobby?

Reading and hiking/walking. I like reading novels to relax and expand my imagination. I get the love of hiking and walking from my mom. She was constantly on the move and taught me to stop and enjoy the nature around me.

What would it be if you had to eat one meal every day for the rest of your life?

Not sure…I really like variety in my life. Italian, Korean, Thai Curry, Portuguese Piri-Piri Chicken, Turkish Eskinder. I could do about one month of each.

What’s one item you can’t live without?

Books. Reading is my way of relaxing.

Which car that you have owned has been dearest to your heart?

That’s tough. I really enjoyed my Porsche Boxster S (986 model) which I owned for almost 10 years. It was a great daily driver for Hawaii. The other favorite was the 1991 Lotus Elan which I had for ~15 years and was my first “exotic”. It was also our first attempt at a restoration. After 1 year, we finished it…never again.

When did you join the car club, and why?

I joined with my husband Jim at the 2021 Car Show. We were members in other car clubs/events both in Hawaii and Ohio and enjoyed meeting other car enthusiasts regardless of make.

What car are you most fond of and why?

Like food, there is no one make/model that does “IT” for me. In my early teens, I started wanting a baby blue Fiat, then an early model Camaro or Mustang, then the Lotus Esprit, then the Porsches.

What do you like most about the car club? What do you like the least?

The membership is diverse in both makes/models and interests. I also like that the club sponsors scholarships that support automotive education. We will need more experienced techs to work on our treasures in the future.

What is your most memorable road trip or vacation from your childhood?

My family took a long road-trip from Ohio to Philmont Scout Ranch near Cimmaron, New Mexico in my early-teens. We went through Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Oklahoma, Kansas, Illinois, etc. on a three-week trek. That’s where I got my first real taste of western life-style.

The Sedona Car Club has made arrangements with Lands End for club members to order clothing and other merchandise with the Sedona Car Club logo.

Lands End has created what they call our e-store. By going directly to our e-store it lets Lands End know that we are ordering a shirt, jacket, sweatshirt, etc. to have the SCC logo on it. Once you log in to our e-store the shopping is just like any internet purchase. You select your style, color, size, etc., then check out. All you have to do is click on the following link to start shopping for club merchandise.
